The concept of spa came from the time of Roman Empire in 14th century, when the exhausted military men returned from the battle field and are trying to find out a way to have a speedy recovery of the wounds and ailment. So, they started hunting for hot wells and put up it as bathing places to heal their aching bodies. They called these places as ‘aquae’ and named the treatment as “Sanus Per Aquam”, that is SPA. This means healing through or by using water.
Now-a-days, spa treatments are gaining popularity, since it is used as a refreshment treatment as well as has a manifold wellbeing benefits. The atmosphere for a spa massage should be like a ‘castle in the sky’, which will help to relax mind, body and soul completely in a quiet ambiance.
There are different types of spa treatments. Medicinal spa, health spa, destination spa, beauty spa, resort spa and day spa are some of them. Each and everyday, new healing processes are added to the list for a spa treatment. So, some of the basic processes of a spa treatment are message using hot stone, Japanese shiatsu, reflexology, aromatherapy, deep tissues etc; facials usually consist of cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, extraction, a mask and finally moisturizing or massage, even including hands and foot treatment; body wraps and scrubs; waxing and even manicure and pedicure.
